Background and History
Kaleab Tekleyohannes is a Juris Doctor candidate at the University of Baltimore School of Law (“UB Law”) with a focused interest in tax law. Practicing under special orders from the IRS and Maryland, he serves as a Student Attorney on UB Law’s Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, where he represents individuals in tax disputes under faculty supervision. In that role, he manages the full arc of client representation, conducting interviews, developing case strategy, performing legal research, and drafting correspondence and submissions to tax authorities.
Kaleab’s legal foundation extends beyond tax work. He previously worked as a paralegal, where he supported international arbitration proceedings involving disputes between the state of Ethiopia and foreign companies before the International Court of Arbitration in The Hague. That cross-border experience gave him an early appreciation for the complexity that arises at the intersection of law, commerce, and sovereign interests, themes that resonate deeply in international tax practice.
Fluent in Amharic, he shares the firm’s conviction that language should never be a barrier to tax representation. He brings a personalized, client-first approach to every matter and is committed to being a true partner, not just a legal advocate, for individuals and businesses navigating the complexities of tax law.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Legal Studies from The Pennsylvania State University. Fluent in Amharic and English, Kaleab brings a multicultural perspective to his practice and is committed to serving underrepresented clients navigating complex tax systems.
